Redemption City Church Celebrates First Anniversary with 32 Baptisms and Growing Community Impact
What a difference a year can make! Redemption City Church, led by Pastor Keith Cabral, recently celebrated its first anniversary with much to be thankful for: 32 baptisms, growing attendance, hundreds of gospel conversations, and lives being transformed through the power of Jesus Christ.
The church, which gathers at a local YMCA, has quickly become a place where people from different backgrounds are finding community, discovering hope, and growing in their faith.
During its first year, Redemption City has seen an average worship attendance of 156 people, with more than 90 participating in Life Groups. Church members have engaged in more than 250 gospel conversations and invested over $15,000 in community outreach events and practical assistance for people experiencing difficult circumstances.
But for Cabral and the Redemption City congregation, the most exciting part of their first year isn’t the statistics. It’s the individual lives behind those numbers.
Stories of Changed Lives
About six months ago, a young woman experiencing homelessness became connected with the church. With encouragement and support from the congregation, she was connected to a sober living home and has continued growing in her relationship with Jesus.
Today, she is celebrating eight months of sobriety and taking important steps toward a more stable and hopeful future.
Another encouraging story involves a man named Geyson and his family.
Geyson’s connection to Redemption City began with a simple conversation at the YMCA. A church member struck up a friendship with him and eventually invited him to attend church.
That invitation led to Geyson and his entire family attending Redemption City’s first anniversary celebration. The family has become involved in serving, and baptism became part of their anniversary experience as well.
What began as an ordinary conversation at the gym became an opportunity for an entire family to connect with a church community and take new steps of faith.
These relationships illustrate an important part of Redemption City’s ministry strategy. Because the congregation meets at the YMCA, church members have natural opportunities to build friendships with people who might never otherwise visit a church.
Several YMCA participants have begun attending worship services because of relationships they developed with members of the congregation.
A Bold Vision for Pawtucket
While the church is celebrating what God has accomplished in its first year, its leaders are already looking toward the future.
Redemption City has established an ambitious goal: reach 10% of Pawtucket’s population within 10 years.
With approximately 77,000 residents in the city, that means reaching 7,700 people with the love and gospel of Jesus Christ.
The church recognizes that accomplishing such a vision will require more than Sunday worship services. It will involve building authentic relationships, meeting practical needs, developing disciples, and creating new opportunities for people to encounter Jesus throughout the community.
One important step toward that vision is the launch of Redemption City’s Youth and Young Adult Ministry on October 29.
This new ministry will focus on helping the next generation build meaningful friendships, explore questions about faith, and grow as followers of Jesus.
Church leaders are also developing additional outreach opportunities to strengthen their connection with the surrounding community.
The Power of Partnership
Redemption City’s first anniversary is also an opportunity to celebrate the churches and individuals who have helped make this new congregation possible.
Through prayer, financial support, encouragement, and hands-on involvement, ministry partners have helped Redemption City establish a strong foundation for its future.
The church’s experience demonstrates why church planting remains an important part of the Baptist Churches of New England’s mission to multiply Christ followers across New England through partnering, equipping, and encouraging.
Every new congregation represents an opportunity to reach people who may have little or no connection to an existing church. And every partnership helps extend the impact of the gospel into communities throughout our region.
As Redemption City enters its second year, Cabral and his congregation are asking fellow believers to pray for continued opportunities to share the gospel, wisdom in developing outreach ministries, additional volunteers, and spiritual growth among those already attending.
One year. Thirty-two baptisms. Hundreds of gospel conversations. And an entire city still waiting to be reached.
Redemption City’s first anniversary is not simply a celebration of what has already happened. It is a reminder of what God can accomplish when His people work together to make Jesus known.
