Safety & security resources

Helping our churches develop safety and security plans to protect children, youth, and the most vulnerable is of the utmost importance to the BCNE.

If your church is interested in personalized safety and security training, contact Sandy Coelho.

Upcoming Training Events

The safety of children and youth is a nonnegotiable priority for the Baptist Churches of New England. We strongly urge all of our churches to take necessary action steps to become more secure. We recommend the following resources as a starting point.

  • Safety & Security Video Series

The BCNE has created a four-part video series for church leaders and volunteers who work with children and youth. Each video has a corresponding resource sheet and a 10-question quiz. We can provide a certificate of completion to those who score 80% or higher on all quizzes.

We also recommend the Southern Baptist Convention’s training curriculum. This series includes 12 videos from top experts that are designed to help churches know how to respond well and care for victims after an initial report of abuse.

  • Background Checks

For information on why and how to do background screening, see this resource from our partner, Brotherhood Mutual.

If your church needs help running background checks for your volunteers, we recommend the following services:

    -Protect My Ministry

    -Lifeway OneSource

  • Developing a Plan

Although the BCNE does not regulate programs for individual churches, we are here to guide churches in developing their own safety and security policies. The following documents provide a good starting point for your church’s leadership team:

-Creating safety and security guidelines (PDF)

-Safety and security best practices (PDF)

-Safety and security booklet - updated 8/2021 (PDF)
