Luther Rice Suite & Lodge

The boyhood home of Baptist pioneer Luther Rice offers lodging for retreats, mission trips and vacations, with priority give to churches and Christian ministries.

The Luther Rice homestead, boyhood home of Baptist missionary pioneer Luther Rice, is located next to the Baptist Churches of New England building. The homestead is made up of three buildings which originally served as the main house, carriage shop and barn.

About the property

The first floor of the main house, now referred to as the Luther Rice Suite, has been turned into a guest suite with period furnishings. It includes one bedroom (queen bed), a bathroom, a parlor and a kitchenette.

The carriage shop has been converted into group accommodations. The Luther Rice Lodge, as it is now called, consists of four bedrooms (each including an attached bath), as well as a common sitting room, a fully-equipped kitchen and one additional, separate bathroom. The Lodge has bunk beds for up to 22 people. Three of the rooms are furnished with three sets of bunk beds and can sleep six people each, while the fourth room has two bunk beds and can sleep four people. In addition, the Lodge has a conference room which can seat about 30 people. Please see the Rice Lodge floor plan for more details about the layout of the Lodge.

The former barn is now the Luther Rice Cottage. It provides long-term housing for BCNE guests and is not available to the public. All properties are equipped with wireless Internet.

Groups and individuals may rent the Rice Suite and the Rice Lodge, with priority given to churches and Christian ministries.

Upkeep

The Luther Rice Lodge and Suite provide affordable housing options that help further New England ministry. We encourage all guests to make a donation toward the ongoing upkeep of the property. Using the secure link below, you can give to the Rice Lodge Endowment Fund and help keep the facilities in good order for years to come.

Pricing

Your group can stay at the Lodge for $30 per person per night. This rate includes linens and towels.

The Suite is generally reserved for people who have an existing relationship with the Baptist Churches of New England, although exceptions can be made. The suite can be rented for $125/night, but discounts may be available in some circumstances.

The BCNE board of directors has made the following provisions for BCNE pastors who are interested in a short retreat:

  • Any BCNE pastor may stay two nights per year at the Suite at no cost.

  • These nights must fall on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

  • Pastors’ reservations are only protected two weeks prior to the stay. In other words, the pastor’s reservation may be rescheduled if a paying customer requests the Suite more than two weeks prior to the date. At the two-week mark, the pastor’s reservation is secure.
