Good Soldier Men’s Weekend Recap | White Mountain Camps | October 2–4, 2026
The second annual Good Soldier Men’s Weekend at White Mountain Camps brought together 82 men from across New England, an encouraging 20% increase over the previous year. More than simply gathering men for a weekend, Good Soldier was designed to call men back to the fundamentals of the Christian life: knowing Christ, surrendering to Christ, standing firm in Christ, and faithfully serving Christ.
The weekend centered on 2 Timothy 2:3-4: “Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.” These verses provided the foundation for challenging New England men to consider what it means to live completely surrendered to Jesus Christ, not merely as Savior, but as Lord and Commander of our lives.
General Doug Carver, retired U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains and current SBC Chief of Chaplains for NAMB, joined Sam Rempel to deliver three powerful worship sessions. Their messages challenged men to stand firm in the faith and step forward in obedience. The emphasis was clear: following Jesus requires more than intellectual agreement. It requires surrender, sacrifice, discipline, courage, obedience, and a willingness to follow Christ wherever He leads.
Ten breakout sessions gave men opportunities to explore practical areas of Christian life and leadership, including prayer, church security, men’s ministry, faith through adversity, stepping forward, leadership, and navigating the seasons of life. These smaller settings created space for deeper conversation, honest sharing, encouragement, and practical application.
One of the most meaningful moments of the weekend was the first baptism ever held at a Good Soldier retreat. Watching a brother fully surrender his life and to publicly declare his faith in Jesus Christ was a powerful reminder that God continues to call sinners to Himself, save them by His grace, and transform their lives through the Gospel.
The weekend also provided opportunities for fellowship and recreation through skeet shooting, time on the rifle range, and archery tag. These activities strengthened relationships and reminded the men that Christian brotherhood is an important part of faithfully following Christ.
For Greg Dorothy, Good Soldier is deeply personal. He attended the previous retreat during a season when his spiritual fire had grown cold. After nearly nine months without work, serious marital struggles, financial uncertainty, and a growing sense of despair, he realized he had been trying to carry life on his own. God used that retreat to call him back to Himself. His faith was reignited, and the process of transformation continues.
That testimony captures the heart of Good Soldier. New England men need the hope of the Gospel, the authority of Scripture, and brothers who will walk alongside them. They need to be reminded that Christ has not merely invited us to believe in Him; He has called us to follow Him.
The mission of Good Soldier is to help men understand what it means to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior, and Commander, refusing to become entangled in the distractions of this world and committing themselves to please the One who has called them.
The goal is not simply to produce better men, husbands, fathers, pastors, or leaders. The goal is to produce faithful followers of Jesus Christ who will stand firm, step forward, endure hardship, serve others, and live with the eternal Kingdom of God in view.
The call is to every man in New England: Will you answer the call?
Will you surrender your life completely to Jesus Christ? Will you allow Him to be not only your Savior, but your Lord and Commander? Will you lay aside the distractions and entanglements that keep you from faithfully following Him? Will you stand firm when faith is challenged, step forward when obedience is costly, and serve Christ wherever He calls?
Come join us at the next Good Soldier Men’s Retreat. Come ready to worship, open God’s Word, build authentic brotherhood, confront the areas of your life that need surrender, and discover what it means to live as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
Bring a brother. Bring your pastor. Bring the man who is struggling. Bring the man who has drifted. Bring the man who needs hope. Come ready to surrender, serve, and follow the One who enlisted you.
The men of New England are searching for something greater. Let’s point them to Jesus Christ.
Stand firm. Step forward. Surrender all.
Be a Good Soldier of Jesus Christ.
