BCNE board of directors issues statement on racism
In response to recent events in our nation, the Baptist Convention of New England Board of Directors issued the following statement after its quarterly meeting on June 4, 2020.
“The Board of Directors of the BCNE affirms the statement on the death of George Floyd issued by Southern Baptist leaders on May 30, 2020. Furthermore, in light of the tragic reality of personal and systemic racism which continues to exist in our society, we encourage the churches in our convention to seek justice in accordance with God’s word; to foster love, understanding and unity in the Gospel across our diverse memberships; to encourage prayerful introspection among our members to consider ways we may harbor racist attitudes in our hearts; to mourn with those in our memberships and larger community who are mourning and suffer under the effects of racism; and to pray for those in authority over us and for those who enforce that authority – that God would cause them to exercise their authority equitably and in a manner which protects life, blesses those under that authority and enables the Gospel of Jesus Christ to flourish and spread throughout New England.”
