Longtime Cambodian Pastor Died Suddenly

Pastor Sim Srey preaching

A longtime New England Baptist known to everyone he met as a humble church leader, Sim Srey, pastor of Cambodian Baptist Church, Lynn, MA, died suddenly on January 2 following a heart attack. Sim, who was 75, served the same congregation faithfully and with humor since 2003 when the founding pastor retired and moved away.

Sim is survived by his wife, Vil Nou, six adult children, and ten grandchildren.

All the grandchildren honored their patriarch when they sang at the funeral on January 7 at Austin Square Baptist Church, Lynn, where the Cambodians shared church facilities. More than 300 friends and family attended the funeral to honor Sim. “He was a humble, family-oriented, godly, and simple man with a sense of humor,” said Richard Hahn, an Austin Square church member.

Sam Taylor, the BCNE’s Boston Area Regional Coordinator, called Sim “a very devoted and capable shepherd of his church in Lynn.”
