SAFETY & SECURITY RESOURCES
The safety of children and youth is a nonnegotiable priority for the Baptist Convention of New England. As part of our ongoing efforts to increase safeguards that protect children, we strongly encourage all of our churches to use the following resources and take necessary action steps to become more secure.
Please note: All mission teams working with children or youth, as well as the church hosting the team, must be children’s safety certified.
Your mission team must:
Ensure that everyone on your team has had a valid background check within the last three years.
Ensure that everyone on your team has gone through child protection training. (You can find some options in the training section below.)
For information on why and how to do background screening, see this resource from our partner, Brotherhood Mutual.
If your church needs help running background checks for your volunteers, we recommend the following services:
Safety & Security Training
If your church does not have safety and security training in place, you may consider the following videos.
Keeping Children Safe (34-minute video overview)
Becoming a Church that Cares Well for the Abused (12 videos with top experts plus additional resources designed to equip churches on how to respond well to an initial abuse report)
Developing a Plan
We highly recommend that every church develop their own child safety and security guidelines. This should include getting advice from an independent, qualified attorney who can address state and local laws. You may consider watching the MinistrySafe Video series to think about issues that should be addressed in your policies.
