Quest is a leadership development experience for high school juniors. Students who participate in Quest are recommended by their local church and if selected join with other students from across New England to participate in the multi- phase experience.
The 2007-2008 Quest 9 team consists of 16 students representing 13 congregations across New England. Eight adults comprise this year's Quest faculty. The three-phase experience is sponsored by the Baptist Convention of New England. To date 118 students have completed the Quest experience since its beginning in 1999.
Biblical servant leadership, team building, cultural studies, and social concerns are explored during the three phases the group spends together. Assignments are given to team members to be completed between phases. Assignments include sharing about family, choosing a mentor and teaching a class within their congregation. Quest students are responsible for personally earning $400 of the $1450- $2200 they must raise for the final phase.
The final phase is a trip to the Dominican Republic or South Africa, each February. The team participates in service projects in each country and work alongside Dominicans or South Africans and missionaries. This may include working with children, visiting schools and communities, sports activities, and physical labor.
Questies, as they are now known, can be found across New England and beyond continuing to practice the lessons learned during their formal Quest experience.
