There is a major development in Southern Baptist Life, that will span the horizons of our publications, discussions, planning and methodologies for the next twelve years. It’s called... God’s Plan for Sharing or “GPS” for short. It’s on the fast track to becoming the next national evangelism initiative for NAMB. A formal presentation unveiled GPS at the 2008 SBC annual meeting in Indianapolis It’s a big God sized endeavor by Southern Baptists to reach the United States. It’s a four phase plan of Praying, Sowing, Engaging and Harvesting with a goal to pray for and give a gospel witness to every person in North America by the year 2020! I can say that it has taken a couple of years to bring GPS together. Lot’s of prayer, discussion and soul searching has gone on trying to answer the question of declining churches and failing baptisms. How does our lack of action illustrate the loss of our first love? What should we do? Our culture is increasingly becoming more secular and separated from the gospel. Are we to join Europe in abandoning the faith in mass? What will we do? How will we reach the urban centers where millions live; places like Boston, New York City and Chicago; how will we reach them? These are not easy questions and they will not be answered overnight as to how but they are good questions that should drive us to prayer and intercession. Will Southern Baptist go at this alone or will we join forces with other evangelicals to accomplish the goal? Is this a goal of men or the desire of God for this generation and this hour? Would the Father want the name of His Son lifted up and proclaimed throughout every town and city across America until every person will at least had a prayer and a chance to consider the Excellencies of Christ and His great salvation? I don’t have to consider that long to know He would. Here I also find hope with promise in the proclamation of our Lord when he said, “if I be lifted up I will draw all men unto me.” I also find hope also in recent surveys of the un-churched that indicate an openness to talk and listen to friends about Christ. For more information, go to GPS. I believe it is an attainable goal. There is now a question if we have the means or will. I’d love to hear your ideas of new ways we may could use to tell others about Christ. If given all that you needed how would you get the message out to the 14.2 million people who live in New England? I’d love to hear from you.
