Harvest is the culmination of the process PDF Print E-mail

Harvest time involves the effective partnering of those who have sown with those who now reap those ready to worship God through His Son Jesus Christ.

How are your church's evangelism tools sharpened and ready for harvesting?

Leading people to faith in Christ is a simple but profound privilege God has given us.  He has chosen in this area to work through humans.  We work in partnership with the Holy Spirit and all those before us who have sown seeds and prayed. While making new disciples is the end of the harvest process, it is also the beginning. Planting the new disciple into the church and teaching them to participate in the harvest process is also a new beginning.

Tools to consider for harvesting:

  1. Knowing the basics of sharing our testimonies and the gospel are essential in harvesting.
  2. Directly sharing the gospel. We must also be bold enough to ask if the person is ready and willing to receive Christ as Lord and Savior. The more we share the easier it becomes.
  3. Church visitation is an effect and prosperous means of bringing in the harvest.  People who have attended church services are excellent prospects for the harvest.
  4. Follow up. Herb Miller gives the following statistics for following up:
      • 85% of guests return if visited in 36 hours;
      • 60% of guests return if visited in 72 hours;
      • 15% of guests return if visited in 7 days
  5. Consistent prayer and gospel witness souls will begin to respond to claims of Christ and the call of God to worship.
  6. Events. Sunday morning worship, revivals and crusades are key times for multiple conversions along with VBS, church camps and event evangelism projects.
  7. Love. People come to know Christ when they witness our love for one another. The key element in seeing this happen is faith working through love.
  8. Assimilation. The work of harvesting is not complete until the crops have been stored in the barn.  In other words until those brought into a relationship with Christ have been assimilated into the worshipping community our job as harvesters is not complete.
