Prison Ministry PDF Print E-mail

Who will go to the outcasts and least deserving in our society? Who will visit those in prison with the Gospel? What about you or your church?

Prison ministries and their volunteers bring hope, help, reassurance, and often a beginning relationship with Christ - or the renewal of a lapsed one - and the encouragement of on-going Bible studies. Spiritual and emotional needs are ministered to with understanding and compassion. Relationships with families outside are built, reaching them with the love of Christ. It is only through ministry like this that true restoration in and out of prison is a possibility.

NETWORKING

We would encourage anyone serving in a prison ministry capacity to join a network of others who do prison ministry and or connect with those in your region who do it as well. This can provide a fair amount of prayer support, practical teaching and idea resourcing. Contact your Association's Director Of Missions (Links to the 7 BCNE Associations available at the top bar tab: Associations).

CHAPLAINCY

Those who lead in prison ministry ought to pray about and consider being endorsed as a chaplain. Through the NAMB, Southern Baptists can receive training and endorsement as NAMB chaplains . This credentialing can open more doors to minister and share the gospel in local prison systems. Here is a chaplaincy_endorsement_manual (PDF) also available at their website.
