Chaplaincy and Disaster Relief: what images come into your mind? Major natural disasters, such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes? Thousands out of their homes, filling large stadiums as their temporary shelter? If these and other large scale disasters come to your mind, BCNE’s lead Chaplains, husband and wife team of Maddy Miller and Neil Timpson ask you to think again.
Disaster Relief chaplaincy is a skill that can be put to use right in your home town. Think about a house fire. Think about an untimely death in a family caused by suicide or homicide. Think about a motor vehicle accident with loss of life. All these scenarios and others, would be made better with the presence of a trained chaplain who would make himself or herself available to be present with the folks left to deal with such a tragedy in their lives. What do Chaplains do? They make themselves available to listen. They give of their time so that they may share their faith with the distressed and troubled victims. They minister to the ‘poor in spirit’. Find out how your willingness to serve the Lord, partnered with the BCNE, the Red Cross and/or your local police and fire departments can make a difference in your community.
If you are feeling a call to serve, please contact either Maddy or Neil. They would love to talk to you about Chaplaincy Training in Disaster Relief work and/or to pray with you about it.
