SEPTEMBER 2017 NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
Quest 19, a leadership development experience for high school juniors, kicked off with the year's first official event, a Questie and parent cookout on Labor Day. Thirty-six students representing 20 New England congregations will be participating in Quest this year.
About 400 people gathered for two retreats for New England pastors and wives led by Phil Waldrep ministries. This year the retreats took place in Providence, R.I., and North Conway, N.H. The attendees were blessed with preaching, worship and fellowship. This is Phil's twenty-second year of leading retreats.
Island Pond Baptist church kid's ministry gathered on Saturday, September 9, For a Kid's Ministry Forum event. Island Pond is ramping up their fall events and kid's leaders were trained on how to manage their classrooms with love and using questions to spark spiritual conversations. Sunday school director, Ron Mills, coordinated this event and Janiss Fowler of Connecticut was the main facilitator.
The premiere event of Leadership Link took place on Saturday, September 23 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Randolph, MA. 72 leaders from 14 churches gathered to participate in five tracks: Preschool/Children's ministry, Bible study/Small group ministry, Church Technology, Essential Leadership Skills and Connecting through Evangelism. Bruce James, Church Strengthening Team Leader, Baptist Convention of New England, kicked off the day with a very challenging message about being willing to making an impact with our neighbors.
The BCNE hosted our first open webinars in September. New England pastors Robert Krumrey of MercyHouse (Mass.), Tim Owens of Mission City Church (Vt.), and Dan Byrd of Netcast Church (Mass.), shared about effective discipleship strategies.
Noted author Claude King, who serves as discipleship and and church help specialist for LifeWay Christian Resources, led multiple events around New England from Sept. 24-30. Most of Claude's messages centered on the theme of reviving the church in order to reach the world. More resources are available at Claude's blog.
New England Disaster Relief has been busy preparing to respond to recent flooding from Hurricans Harvey, Irma and Maria. Two training events were held in Vermont and Connecticut to prepare volunteers, while a third event is being planned in New Hampshire on Oct. 7. Travel plans have not yet been finalized.
