Transformational Leadership

Transformational Leadership Recent years have seen both subtle and significant changes in leadership development. Event based training continues to be important and productive in equipping both lay and pastoral leaders but a foundational understanding of change is now under girding everything that the Leadership Development Team is involved in. Believing that God predestined us “to become conformed to the image of His Son,” and that true external change flows from prevenient internal change, every effort of the team is focused on facilitating transformational leadership that results in enhanced missional living.

It is our desire to see leaders transformed by the power of the indwelling Savior and developed so that they can, in turn, invest in others resulting in the development of more leaders and the growth of local ministry. For example, since 1998, we have developed more than 100 volunteers who have served as multipliers in the area of bible study and Vacation Bible School ministries. They, in turn, have had the opportunity to teach thousands of volunteer leaders in skill development as well as encouraging them through their own personal spiritual development.

Believing that the context in which God transforms us into the image of Christ is a relational one, every member of the team invests themselves in leaders in their area of focus by journeying with them over extended time. Following Christ together enables us to help one another in seeing and discerning and growing as we lead in our churches.

Christ formation and skill enhancement are complimented by real-life dialogue and support as paradigms are adjusted in light of biblical truth and changing culture and resources enhanced and optimized.

The primary areas of focus for the Leadership Development Team are pastoral, lay, youth, and collegiate. Grouping of leaders in both learning communities as well as leadership teams provides natural, continuing venues for growth together. In addition, targeted training events continue to be developed to provide necessary training while also providing opportunities for developing leaders to teach and train others. In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul writes, “And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” Multiplication is a priority.

Believing that encounters with Christ and His great commission for our lives are enhanced when we step out in faith and step out of our normal worlds, the team continues development of cross-cultural and international platforms for service and leadership. Church leaders have multiple avenues for break-through kinds of experiences on these platforms.

Numerical participation in the wide range of training and development opportunities continues to increase. Most gratifying, though, is the deepening realization by a growing number of church leaders that “change from the inside out” enables “leadership from the inside out” and from there true transformation flows.
