This property is the original site of Luther Rice's boyhood home. It currently is owned by the Baptist Convention of New England [BCNE]. His passionate dream of training and supporting pastors and missionaries lives on through the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention [read more about Luther Rice History].
The Homesite has three buildings. The main house contains an apartment on the second floor in which missionaries on stateside assignment can live, and the first floor has a hotel-like suite with furnishings modeled from the 1800's. The carriage shop is a building that has at some point housed buggies, cars, and people. We now call it the Rice Lodge. The third building, the barn, has at some point been a barn for cows and other barnyard animals, a library for a seminary, and currently houses the property managers.
The Rice Lodge and the Rice Suite are available to rent. The Rice Lodge is a small retreat center equipped with 22 bunk beds to accommodate groups. It's a great place for you or your group to hold retreats, hold meetings, have church picnics, or get away from the hustle and bustle. The Rice Suite is a hotel-type suite including a queen bed, kitchenette, and full bath.
Located just 34 miles from downtown Boston, you'd think you were in New Hampshire instead of Massachusetts because of the quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
