Southern Baptists have long been the
leaders in shaping and discipling Christians to be on mission for
Christ. In order to reach the globe with the gospel in an Acts 1:8
paradigm, it is paramount that churches have a strategy for teaching
and modeling to members not only about missions in a far off context,
but how young and old can be missional Christians right where they live.
Among Southern Baptists there are two organizations who take the lead in Missions Education, particularly among children and young people. The North American Mission Board (this was formerly done by Men's Brotherhood) has a role with boys grade 1 through 6, and has developed DIME (Drop in Missions Education) suitable for use in any existing children's programs. There is also, through the Acts 1:8 Challenge initiative, a number of free comprehensive, age-graded Missions curriculum worthy of every church's attention.
The Women's Missionary Union
has long served to bring missions education to the churches to a broad
array of age and gender groups. WMU’s purposes is to educate about
missions. This objective is met through age-level organizations /
programs formed in churches and through their many mission publications and resources.
