Harvest is the culmination of the process

Harvest time involves the effective partnering of those who have sown with those who now reap those ready to worship God through His Son Jesus Christ.

How intentional is your church harvesting and following up the harvest so the cycle continues?

/files/Pictures/Evangelism/Logos/Harvest/harvestlogosm.jpgLeading people to faith in Christ is a simple but profound privilege God has given us.  He has chosen in this area to work through humans.  We work in partnership with the Holy Spirit and all those before us who have sown seeds and prayed. The imperative of the gospel is that Christians, churches and associations work together to bring in the harvest.

"Our God of Grace often gives us a second chance, but there is no second chance to harvest a ripe crop." -- Kurt von Schleicher

While making new disciples is the end of the harvest process, it is also the beginning. Planting the new disciple into the church and teaching them to participate in the harvest process is also a new beginning.

Harvest should include a sense of urgency, teamwork and celebration.Find inspiration from this article on Harvest .

Steps leading to harvesting:

  1. Personal Evangelism:
    • Knowing the basics of sharing our testimonies and the gospel are essential in harvesting.
    • Consistent prayer and gospel witness. Souls will begin to respond to claims of Christ and the call of God to worship.
    • Relationship Building is essential for seed sowing and harvesting. It is compared to a bridge. We should care enough for the person we wish to share Christ with to build a bridge of relationship strong enough to bear the weight of the truth of the gospel.
    • Directly sharing the gospel. We must also be bold enough to ask if the person is ready and willing to receive Christ as Lord and Savior. The more we share the easier it becomes.
  2. Church Seed Sowing:
    • Event Evangelism (VBS, fairs etc.)
    • Canvassing projects
    • Crusades / campaigns
    • Worship Service
    • Small Groups / Sunday School
    • Ministry Evangelism
    • Church visitation is an effect and prosperous means of bringing in the harvest.  People who have attended church services are excellent prospects for the harvest.
Follow up. Follow up is the crucial, often left out, bridge of evangelism and harvest. It is the end point of harvest. Our aim is to see churches intentionally plan on following up with either of two people:
    • Visitors and Prospects
    • New Believers
(See our web page on Follow Up)
Incorporation.
The work of harvesting is not complete until the crops have been stored in the barn.  In other words until those brought into a relationship with Christ have been connected as disciples with the worshipping community our job as harvesters is not complete and we're guilty of spiritual infanticide.

2. The Farm & the Workers Must be Ready
The Farm and the Workers must be ready to receive the Harvest or the results will diminish proportionately.

3. Soil must be Examined, Prepared and Adopted
Knowing and proactively responding to the community in which the church is located is a strategic step in evangelizing effectively. Rather than a posture of a Christian church-culture residing in the community insulated from it’s language, media and issues, the church must know and adopt the community.

4. Seed Sowing must be Regular, Persistent & Intentional
We cannot expect a harvest if we have sown little or no seed.  Seed sowing represents the work of the church in the community.
